Hi, I’m Monika!
First, thank you for stopping by. I’m so thrilled to share my passion and my vision of home cooking with you.
I was born in Slovakia but raised by a Hungarian mother in Hungary. I was 7 years old when we moved to Hungary. My mother cooking had a definite stamp of Slovakian as we call “Highland” cooking.
In 2007 I moved to Ireland until 2011. After I moved to the USA. It felt like a different world and a complete culture shock. This different world that I call home now
Currently, I’m living in Atlanta with my husband and our furry-baby Pablo.
What is Gold Paprika about?
Gold Paprika is a food blog that highlights healthy home cooked dishes and using a lot’s of veggies.
Besides, I love exploring and learning other traditions foods and cooking methods. I truly think the easiest way to know and accept each other the way we are.
Home-cooked food is very important to me…
Not only for health benefits but to bring back memories and create new ones.
I love the smell of fresh-baked bread. I bake my own bread as often as I can. Reminds me, as a kid of Saturday mornings when we came home from the market and stopped by at the local bakery.
The bread was crispy outside and soft inside. While it was warm we put fresh pork lard and pickled cabbage on the top. Nothing fancy just good quality simple ingredients.
I love Veggies
Hungarians are eating a lot of meat and meat products. Our food mostly contains meat. I was lucky to be able to experience how real good quality meat tastes. The meat that comes from the back yard, the meat raised by us or the neighbors we knew.
I started eliminating meat in my diet when I was around 18. It was a long journey. I had a time when I went complete vegetarian I try a vegan diet as well.
Now, I’m eating fish and seafood. I cook meat occasionally when I have guests coming over or by request to bring real traditional meals to the table.
Health is one of the key ingredients…
Me personally I don’t believe that – one-type-of diet- fits for all.
I believe in good quality ingredients and try to make everything at home, without buying highly processed ingredients and already prepared meals.
